The close page counts blockers from your records: draft entries, pending approvals and adjustments, bank accounts without a completed reconciliation, unreviewed transactions and documents. Closing locks the period; reopening is limited and recorded.
Steps
- Pick the period.
- Resolve each blocking check; each one links to where it is fixed.
- Close the period when every blocking check passes.
What you get
A closed period cannot receive new postings.
Who can do this
Owners, admins and accountants can close; only owners and admins can reopen the most recent closed period.
If something goes wrong
- Close is blocked by a draft entry.
- Post or delete the draft in Journal entries.
Terms used here
- Draft
- A journal entry that has been prepared but not posted. Drafts never affect reports.
- Month-end close
- Checking that a period is complete and correct, then locking it so no further postings change it.
